Dutch dairy giant FrieslandCampina has acquired Fabrelac, a Belgian dairy business that supplies mozzarella as an ingredient to the food service industry with pizza manufacturers as the main customers. Fabrelac also produces a small amount of salad cheese, whey ingredients and cream.
Although the fee was not disclosed, Friesland said that the deal will allow it to offer a wider range of mozzarella products to customers in the fast-growing mozzarella market, alongside its existing cheese business.
Established in 1993, the Fabrelac business is situated in the town of Bree adjacent to the Belgian-Dutch border and close to Friesland’s headquarters. The production facility, which was extended in 2012, has an annual production capacity is 30 million kg of mozzarella.
