The prestigious Sprout Accelerator Growth Strategy Award will be on the flight home to Ireland thanks to the Agrilume dairy cow mask.

Agrilume, has been adopted from the equestrian industry and when the lighting holter is worn by cows after calving it is scientifically proven to increase milk yield.

The business was also highly commended in the International category of Innovation competition at the show. The award will provide Equilume with access to New Zealand market expertise as the company attempts to grow its customer base in New Zealand.

Light mask

Agrilum's product is a headpiece for cows that beams timed, low-intensity blue light into one eye to replicate natural daylight. Use of the bovine light mask on lactating cows has been shown to increase milk yield by up to 10% in trials around the world.

Judging process

The judging panel at Fieldays highly commended Agrilume citing the application of peer-reviewed, credible science to new product development as highly worthy of mention according to Te Radar, the event’s master of ceremonies. In New Zealand, the benefits of the product are noticeable for winter milking farmers, with up to 10% yield.

Equilume won a previous innovation award in the 2017 Innovation Arena at the National Ploughing Championships which is supported by Enterprise Ireland, the Irish Farmers Journal and the National Ploughing Association.
