Foster & Allen team up with Nathan Carter for new single

Foster & Allen have teamed up with Nathan Carter to release their new single and video. Burning Bridges is a collaboration of the classic Status Quo song and the video was recorded in Derry and Belfast. Mick and Tony are always pleased to share their songs and videos with various artists and Nathan is the latest in a long line of artists who have featured along with Foster & Allen over the years. The Westmeath duo and band enjoyed a big tour of Canada in September and will commence an extensive UK tour on 27 October. They will start their Irish tour Christmas week, with several dates lined up for January and March. They hope to record fresh material for a new album in the coming months.

Sligo rallies for COPD

The Belbulben COPD Support Group will hold their annual fundraising concert in the Sligo Southern Hotel on Tuesday, 24 October. The proceeds from the night will assist in the purchase of medical equipment for Sligo Hospital to help people with COPD to cope with and manage lung disease. This noble venture is once again being pioneered by local musician and singer Michael McGloin, with the help of some dedicated friends.

“People are very supportive of this cause and we always get good support from around the area for this special night in Sligo town,” says Michael.

The artists taking part in the concert are Kevin Prendergast, Eamonn Jackson, Caitriona Ni Cheannabháin, Ray Murtagh, Anne Biddie, Paul Kelly, Trevor Moyles, Matt Leavy, Róisín Murphy and John Nelson. The backing band features Brendan Magee and Eugene Cunningham, while Brendan will also be compere for the show. The concert starts at 8.15pm and admission is €10.

The Duets release new album

Home to Glenamoy is the new album from The Duets, the Mayo duo featuring Tommy and Kathleen Moran. The Duets are known to many who attend the National Ploughing Championships and have performed on the main stage over several years now. The 14-track collection is their first in some years and featured a selection of songs that are in regular demand at their shows. These include numbers such as Two Rooms and A Kitchen, Love Me When I’m Old, Music and The County Clare, Reasons, God’s Plan, The Old Claddagh Ring, Erin Tennessee, and the title track, Home to Glenamoy, composed by Chicago based Joe McShane.

Brose Walsh Band dance

The Brose Walsh Band will headline a fundraising dance for the Kiltimagh First Responders Group in Craggagh Community Centre (between Kiltimagh and Balla) on Saturday night, 21 October. This novel venture is attracting considerable local interest and it will be a night of nostalgia for many who ramble along. The Brose Walsh Band have been part of the music scene in Mayo down through the decades and have toured extensively in the UK and USA over the years.

Roseanne O’Carroll (a niece of the late Doc Carroll of The Royal Blues Showband) from the First Responders Group says Kiltimagh is taking the lead on a service which they hope will eventually lead to 24/7 CPR/defibrillator cover in the area.

“We are the first volunteer group in Mayo to go live with the HSE ambulance service to help get trained medical response as quick as possible to the community when needed. When somebody calls an ambulance, we are called at the same time and can sometimes get to the scene before the ambulance to provide first aid/CPR/defibrillator as needed. We do not replace the ambulance service but we work in support of them,” states Roseanne.
