Some 78 farmers who applied for compensation under the weather-related crop loss support measure are still waiting for payment.

The scheme was announced in August 2017 to compensate farmers whose crops had been devastated in the bad spring, and figures obtained from the Department of Agriculture show that just 53% of the 167 applicants have been paid to date.

A spokesperson for the Department said they are “currently awaiting additional information for 23 cases”.

Some €393,619 has been paid out under the €1.5m scheme. The top-three counties in receipt of payments were Cork with 38 payments, Galway with 14 and Donegal with 11.
