The extraordinary contribution to Irish equestrianism of the Hume Dudgeon family will be honoured at this year's Dublin Horse Show in the RDS Library Exhibition.

Titled “Scenes from the Life of an Irish Equestrian Family”, it will run from 6 August to 30 October.

Headed by Captain Joe Hume Dudgeon, the family not only competed in show jumping and eventing, but also ran a ground-breaking equestrian school first at Mertville, Booterstown, then Burton Hall, Stillorgan, and finally at Herbertstown, Dunboyne. Joe was a Nations' Cup winner for Britain , was on their squad for the first Aga Khan Trophy in 1926 and later won the Dublin Grand Prix.

Olympic teams

He trained Olympic teams for both Britain and Ireland.

His daughter K continued his teaching tradition. His son Ian competed on the Irish teams at both the Helsinki and Rome Olympics. And there is much, much more that will be displayed both on picture boards and on DVD at the exhibition, which will be officially launched this evening (Thursday, 31 July) at 6pm.
