Impressive €16,100/acre in Wexford

A 17-acre high-quality piece of ground sold under the hammer for €16,176/acre. Offered in three lots, including the entire, the holding was located in Ballamon, Ferns, Co Wexford. Lot one consisted of a derelict cottage on 1.3 acres. Bidding on the day opened at €30,000 and three interested parties brought that to €70,000. The guide price for this package was €50,000.

Bidding then moved on to the second lot. A 16-acre parcel of top-quality land, it was guided before auction at €150,000. The auction opened at €100,000 and two bidders ensured it rose to €125,000 before David Quinn of Quinn Auctioneers held the property and moved on to the entire.

Guided at €200,000, the entire attracted interest from three individuals. Opening at its guide, it heading north towards €250,000. At this point, Quinn went back and offered the separate lots again. When no further bids were made, the entire was put on the market at €250,000 and sold for €275,000. Irish Country Living understands that a local couple bought the holding.

Over 50 people attended the auction, highlighting the significant local interest in the property. The lands themselves are of high quality. Laid out in four paddocks, the fields are all in tillage with good road frontage. Should the landowner wish to put stock on the fields, it must be fenced.

The cottage is in need of renovation and investment. It contains two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a toilet.
