The Agricultural Science Association (ASA) has announced a development programme that aims to develop critical leadership skills within the agri-food sector.

The programme will focus on three core modules, which were highlighted as weak spots within the sector by a recent ASA survey.

Change

“One of the key components of the Emerging Leaders programme will be a focus on leading through change including managing stakeholders and motivating staff, all elements which will be key as we continue to navigate unchartered waters on the global market,” ASA president Amii McKeever said.

The three modules will include:

  • The role of a leader – participants will learn how to select an appropriate leadership style, the difference between leading and managing and helping others to understand how vision and purpose relates to their work.
  • Personal effectiveness – participants will learn how to manage their time efficiently, how to deal effectively with disturbances and distractions and how to delegate.
  • Managing performance – participants will learn how to effectively give and take feedback, apply techniques to recognise and motivate others and use a structured approach to deal with non-performance and under-performance.
  • The programme was developed in conjunction with HPC Global and has also been subsidised by Macra Agricultural Skillnet in order to reduce the cost to participants.

Registration is currently open to ASA members and will operate on a first come, first served basis.
