A circa 100-acre holding in Co Longford flew off the shelf recently, as the property finished at auction at €720,000.

The holding, located in Cornacarta, Ballymahon, Co Longford, was offered in one lot. With an interested crowd of over 50 in attendance, bidding opened at €500,000. Competitive from the start, two interested parties left little room for anyone else to get involved on the floor. Bidding rose to €720,000 after incremental increases of €20,000 and €10,000, before Auctioneer Paul Murtagh, who handled the auction, brought proceedings to a halt to allow for consultation.

The property was put on the market at €720,000 and was snapped up at that price by two brothers, who had previously rented the land for over 20 years.

According to Dillion Murtagh, of Murtagh Bro’s of Mullingar, the holding was good, solid grassland. The property, which is laid out in eight paddocks, is well fenced and has a natural water supply. The well-maintained nature of the land is a credit to those renting it and merited the €7,200/acre price tag. While the property has limited road frontage, it has road frontage all the same. A two-storey, derelict dwelling and outbuilding complete the balance of what is on offer.

The property was up for executive sale and Irish Country Living understands that both parties are said to be happy with the transaction.
