Farmers in the Beef Data and Genomic Scheme (BDGP) have until the 30 September (today) to complete their carbon navigator for 2017.

Farmers should have received a form in the post or complete the form online through the ICBF website.

Information required includes turning out and housing dates for suckler cows and yearlings, and also fertiliser use and slurry spreading dates.

The fertiliser or meal used by other enterprises on the farm are not included e.g. for sheep

It is a compulsory part of the BDGP scheme and farmers risk being penalised if they do not complete the form in time.

“Nitrogen usage and concentrate usage for 2017 for the beef enterprise is also required.” ICBF states.

“The fertiliser or meal used by other enterprises on the farm are not included e.g. for sheep. There is an example given for converting the Nitrogen in a compound fertiliser to the CAN equivalent.”
