At this year’s National Ploughing Championships, the Belgian Beltex Sheep Breeders stand will once again be in the National Sheep Breeders Association tunnel.

The stand will feature a shearling ram and a selection of super-shaped Beltex-cross quality lambs.

Beltex-sired lambs add value to sheep enterprises, with their double muscle-producing E and U grade carcases between 19kg and 21kg dead weight.

Since the establishment of the QualEUtex Lamb Producers Group in 2016, the Belgian Beltex Society has grown, membership is up and rams are in strong demand.

Society members will be on hand each day of the Ploughing to answer farmers’ questions regarding breed characteristics and the QuaEUtex Lamb Producer Group.

Visitors to the stand will be able to see for themselves why the breed is unique for conformation and muscling.

Beltex farmers are clearly producing a high-value product, as, once again, Beltex won the all-Ireland factory lamb competition at Athlone Show 2017.

The next sale of Beltex sheep will be held in Roscommon Mart on Saturday 30 September followed by a ram sale at Delvin Mart, Co Meath, on Thursday 5 October. The society’s in-lamb ewe sale will be held in Tullamore Mart on Wednesday 6 December.
