In this week’s machinery pages, we report on changes of ownership at Bogballe, the Danish fertiliser spreader manufacturer. This fertiliser spreader brand has a strong following in Ireland that have seen an injection of funding into their business.

Peter Thomas Keaveney reports from Dunmore, Co Galway, on a tractor-pulling event with a difference. A great German powerhouse flexes its muscles against a Swedish brand rarely seen in the field but with very interesting results.

We get a first look at the new John Deere S700 series of combines. This is a large combine with a huge appetite. New technology and new headers means this machine is made for output and performance. John Deere are also selling a new header range that some readers may recognise from times gone by.

Alistair Chambers looks at the upgrades Claas has made to its harvesting equipment. Changes to its big square balers, combines and machine management systems means more user-friendly machines for harvest time.

Farm safety

It’s a busy time on farms so we give a recap of what to watch out for in the field and on the road this harvest period. A few seconds spent on the small things could save a life and prevent a lot of heartache. Take some time and be careful around farm equipment this autumn.

Mountbellew Vintage Club held its 18th annual show this year with a huge selection of vintage equipment with some lesser-spotted machines operating on the day. There were some pristine models presented that meant great interest from those that attended. Despite the inclement weather some live demonstrations took place.

Alistair Chambers takes the Skoda Superb Estate for a test drive. Roomy, sporty and powerful are a few words that best describe this car. Its specification and size means this car will appeal to the masses with plenty of space for all passengers.
