Special replacement female sales have started in the last week to 10 days, with a few stand-out sales taking place.

Saturday 15 August - Borris Ewe Breeders Association 57th annual premier show and sale

  • Venue: Borris Mart, Co Carlow.
  • Description: The sale of Suffolk x Cheviot females has an entry of approximately 1,200 hoggets, 1,000 ewe lambs and 300 ewes. Contact Maurice Donohue for more info on 087-9871695.
  • Friday 21 August and Saturday 22 August - Mayo Mule and Greyface Group Premier Show and sale of ewe hoggets and ewe lambs

  • Venue: Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart, Co Mayo.
  • Description: The Mayo Mule and Greyface Group is the longest-running group offering Mule and Greyface sheep in Ireland. It is holding a two-day sale again in 2020, with 800 Mule and Greyface hoggets on offer on the Friday and 2,000 ewe lambs entered for Saturday’s premier lamb sale. As a condition of sale entry, the group has mandatory clostridial disease vaccination and this will remain in place for 2020, with all sheep treated on a programme with Heptavac–P. All sheep will be sold through the ring and online bidding is available. The group also says transport for stock can be arranged.   • Friday 21 August - Carrick Prolific Breeders Ewe Lambs Breeders sale

  • Venue: Showgrounds, Boyle Road, Carrick-on-Shannon.
  • Description: The newly formed group will hold its second sale at 6pm, with viewing starting at 4pm. There will be 700 ewe lambs on offer, comprising a mixture of lowland and hill-crosses. There is a minimum entry weight of 40kg for lowland ewe lambs and 38kg for the hill crosses. Breeds on offer include Belclare, Lleyn, Mule, Suffolk (traditional and New Zealand), Texel and Cheviot crosses. Contact Seamus for more info on 086-815 9702.
  • Wednesday 26 August - Tullow Sheep Breeders Association

  • Venue: Tullow Mart, Co Carlow.
  • Description: The Tullow Sheep Breeders Association is hoping for a repeat of its successful premier sale held in recent weeks. There will be in the region of 1,000 Suffolk-cross-Cheviot ewe lambs on offer and 500 ewe hoggets. The sale will also include an entry of Cheviot sheep.   • Friday 28 August - Donegal Mule Group sale of ewe lambs and ewe hoggets

  • Venue: Ballybofey Stranorlar Mart, Co Donegal.
  • Description: Established in recent years, the Donegal Mule Group will host its sale of ewe lambs and ewe hoggets in Ballybofey and Stranorlar Mart at 6pm. The group has also decided to hold a second sale in Carnew Mart in 2020 with details below.
  • Saturday 29 August - Second Borris Ewe Breeders Association sale

  • Venue: Borris Mart, Co Carlow.
  • Description: The sale was previously the Bagnelstown Ewe Breeders Sale and will now take place under the banner of the Borris Ewe Breeders. Contact Maurice Donohue for more info on 087-987 1695.
  • Saturday 5 September - Maam Cross Mule Group Annual Lamb Show and Sale

  • Venue: Maam Cross Mart, Co Galway.
  • Description: The sale will offer in the region of 1,200 Mule ewe lambs. Lambs are bred from a mixture of Lanark-type ewes and the traditional Connemara hill ewes.   • Saturday 5 September - Cooley Sheep Breeders Association 10th annual show and sale

  • Venue: Greenore Road, Carlingford, Co Louth.
  • Description: This unique multibreed sale sees a dedicated group of producers set up a sales ring and penning for a one-day sale on the Cooley Peninsula. There will be in the region of 2,000 ewe lambs and ewe hoggets on offer across a range of breeds including Mule, Lleyn, Hiltex and Suffolk, Cheviot and Texel crosses.   • Friday 18 September - Donegal Mule Group sale of ewe lambs and ewe hoggets

  • Venue: Carnew Mart, Co Wicklow.
  • Description: After a successful outing in 2019, the Donegal Mule Group has decided to return with a sale in Carnew in 2020. The group says this is being carried out to service demand from buyers in the south of the country who may not be in a position to travel for its first sale.
