Road hauliers across Europe have collectively come together to sign an open letter to the Brexit negotiators in the EU and the UK.

They say that “time is of the essence” in determining the impact of Brexit on transporting goods ahead of the UK exit from the EU at the end of the year.

The situation is doubly important for Ireland which relies on goods crossing from the island to the UK to enter the continent. These include agricultural goods and services.

Agreement

The open letter states that an agreement must be made “without resorting to the reintroduction of haulage permits and quota systems that were never intended to cover volumes of trade as high as those currently taking place between the EU and the UK”.

A deal has yet to be reached and Brexit negotiations will heat up this week as the UK's negotiator Michael Gove MP travelled to Brussels for talks with his EU counterparts this week.
