A new €20/head calf scheme to incentivise farmers for weighing calves is set for launch, the Irish Farmers Journal understands.

The €5m scheme is expected to open when calf sales are in full swing. It is understood there is some debate over whether to cap the scheme at 20 calves per farm. It is understood that all calves except dairy replacement calves would be eligible for the scheme. and calves must be over eight weeks of age at the first weighing.
