Corrin Mart held a tender sale for dairy dry cows, bullocks and heifers on Tuesday.

The 40 dry cows were mostly black and white Friesian cows with a variation in weights, finish and size.

On the day, cows sold on average for €1.31/kg. The range was from €1.51/kg for the top third down to €1.11 for the bottom third of poorer-quality cows.

There were 110 bullocks for sale and the majority of bullocks in the sale were dairy-bred beef animals heading for 15 and 16 months old.

The majority were in the 400kg to 500kg weight bracket and they sold on average for €1.90/kg.

The top third on quality made up to €2.17/kg, while those in the lower end on quality made €1.49/kg.

Heavier bullocks in the 500kg to 600kg weight bracket made €1.94/kg on average, with the top third making €2.13/kg and down to €1.71/kg for the bottom third of bullocks.

Heifers

It was a similar situation in the heifer ring, with the majority of the 73 heifers hitting for 15 and 16 months old in the weight range between 350kg and 450kg.

Again, the heifers were mainly dairy-beef-bred stock.

On average, the heifers sold for €2.05/kg, with the top third selling for €2.12/kg.

The bottom third of heifers made €1.99/kg.

This Simmental cross heifer, born April 2018, weighing 486kg, sold for €892 (€1.84/kg).

Heavier heifers over 500kg made slightly less on average than store heifers, with an average of €1.90/kg - ranging from a high of €1.99/kg for the top third down to €1.82/kg for the bottom third.
