Camera at the Mart attended the weekly cattle sale in Armoy on Monday evening. After a busy summer, sale numbers have eased to a more seasonal level, with 120 animals forwarded on the evening.

A strong ringside of buyers meant that bidding was brisk and prices held firm, especially on forward cattle.

This Belgian Blue steer, weighing 470kg and 18 months old, sold for £850.

Commenting on the sale, mart manager Danny McAllister said that store cattle remain an easy sell, with plenty of demand.

Prices are on par with previous weeks and farmers offloading cattle are getting a good price for quality stock.

This Hereford steer, weighing 590kg and 21 months old, sold for £1,040.

On the evening, there was a big entry of dairy-bred cattle, with a limited number of suckler-bred stock and cull cows.

Prices hit a peak of £1,200 for a 560kg Aberdeen Angus steer, followed by £1,145 for a 580kg Limousin steer and £1,140 for a 550kg Charolais-bred animal.

This Fleckvieh steer, weighing 530kg and 24 months, sold for £940.

Other stand-out prices saw Angus steers selling to £1,090 for a 560kg lot. The general trade saw good-quality, fleshed animals in most demand.

This Limousin steer, weighing 535kg and 23 months old, sold for £950.

Dairy-bred stock were a solid trade, commanding plenty of buying interest from specialist finishers. A good entry of Fleckvieh-cross steers sold well, with £830 paid for a 400kg animal and £820 paid on a 430kg animal.

This Angus steer, weighing 545kg and 22 months old, sold for £1,000.

Heavier types saw Fleckvieh steers making £1,010 for a 560kg animal, with £960 paid on a 530kg animal. Friesians sold to £830 for a 530kg steer, followed by £820 for a 500kg animal.

Limousin steers with dairy breeding sold to £1,040 for a 540kg animal, with £1,000 paid for a 550kg animal.

This Charolais heifer, weighing 470kg and 18 months old, sold for £1,000.

Heifers topped out at £1,190 for a 550kg Limousin, followed by £1,105 for a 570kg Angus-bred animal.

Other Angus types made £1,020 for 500kg and £930 for 490kg, with lighter types selling from £800 to £860 depending on quality.

Charolais heifers sold to £1,000 for a 470kg animal, with £900 paid for a 410kg heifer.

Fat cows sold to £1,050 for an 800kg Friesian, followed by £930 to £990 for similar types carrying plenty of flesh.

This Charolais heifer, weighing 415kg and 15 months old, sold for £900.

A small entry of suckler-bred cows saw an Angus cow selling to £870 for a 540kg animal suitable for intensive feeding.
