There was an increased entry of store cattle at Markethill Mart on Saturday, with 540 animals being met with keen buying demand.

Store heifers sold to a top price of £1,600 for a 720kg Limousin animal, with a general price range of 210p to 235p/kg paid for heavy fleshed heifers. Other noted prices saw a 640kg Charolais sell for £1,470 and a 670kg Charolais sell for £1,590.

Mid-weight heifers sold from 200p to 242p/kg, with a 390kg animal making £945, with plainer types selling from 180p to 190p/kg.

Bullocks were a flying trade, hitting their highest prices for the year to date. Heavy bullocks sold to £1,650 for a 720kg Limousin, with the main trade returning £1,300 to £1,500, or 210p to 234p/kg for fleshed cattle.

Angus bullocks sold from 210p to 237p/kg, with a 570kg animal making £1,335. Mid-weight stores sold from 210p to 251p/kg, with a 490kg Charolais making £1,230. Friesian bullocks sold from 150p to 192p/kg.
