Despite an impending storm and saturated land in the area, farmers and agents continue to be active securing all types of stock. While good-quality cattle were a strong and steady trade, plainer types were still a slow sell.

Bullocks

The bullock ring saw quite a brisk trade for forward bullocks, with good-quality continentals over 600kg selling mainly from €600 to €750 over the weight. Again, similar to previous weeks, aged bullocks were running well behind in-spec stock price wise, with fewer buyers active for these types.

This 595kg Charolais cross bullock born March 2016 sold for €1,295 (€2.18/kg).

This 545kg Limousin cross bullock born February 2016 sold for €1,310 (€2.40/kg).

Prices for those that would be slaughtered over 30 months were running about €100 to €150 per head behind in-spec types. Bullocks from 500kg to 600kg sold mainly from €500 to €650 over the weight, with better-quality types making over €750 along with the weight.

A good entry of lighter store bullocks from 400kg to 500kg sold mainly from €500 to €600 over, with top-quality types making from €700 to €800 over.

This 505kg Charolais heifer born March 2016 sold for €1,125 (€2.23/kg).

This 525kg Charolais heifer born March 2016 sold for €1,150 (€2.19/kg).

Heifers

The trade for forward and heavy heifers was not as strong as the equivalent bullock trade. Those over 600kg were not available in large numbers. Where they were on offer, those from 500kg to 600kg were more common and sold mainly from €500 to €600 over the weight. Better-quality types sold for up to €700 over and up to €800 over but only in few cases.

Lighter types from 400kg to 500kg were plentiful also and demand was strong. Prices for these ranged mainly from €900 to €1,200.
