On Sunday 5 August at 7pm, a unique tractor pulling event will take place in Dunmore, Co Galway. The hugely anticipated antics of the evening will be a tractor versus a lorry. A Claas Axion 920 will take on a Volvo double-drive in what could only be described as madness for a good cause. The Claas Axion 920, owned by local contractor Pa McHugh, rated at a huge 320hp from an FPT engine and weighing in at over 20t including additional weights, will be taking on John Munroe’s 700hp Volvo double-drive.

Charity

This event is being run as a fundraiser in aid of St Oliver’s Special School in Tuam, Co Galway. Last year, the event raised €1,671.86, which was collected from a quick bucket collection and was handed over for the construction of a children’s playground in a neighbouring parish.

Pa McHugh, one of the organisers of the event, told the Irish Farmers Journal: “We were delighted with how the event went last year.

“It was one of the biggest crowds witnessed throughout the course of the 10-day festival. We are hoping to repeat last year’s success.”
