The sale had 164 bulls and heifers catalogued, of which a total of 133 were offered for sale, including cattle from the Limousin, Charolais, Simmental, Angus, Shorthorn and Hereford breeds. There was a 65% clearance overall

Charolais

There was a steady trade for the 45 Charolais on offer, nine bulls went over the €3,000 marker. There was 60% clearance within the breed and average price of €2,562

Top price of the overall sale went to Dermot Foley, Carrowquil, Kilmore, Carrick on Shannon Co Roscommon for his stylish 15-month-old Charolais bull. Bred by Caveland Fenian. He was five stars on both terminal and replacement index values along with being 6.2% for calving ease and sold for €3,800.

Second best price on the day went to Ohill Nitro bred by Patrick Beirne, Oghill Mohill Co Leitrim. The well-muscled, April 2017-born bull was sired by Carrickbrack96 Hutch. He sold for €3,600.

Two lots shared the €3,500 price tag. Jerry O’Keeffe, Woodlawn, Grange, Knocklong, Co Limerick for a Goldstar Echo son and also John Keane, Mohedian, Croghan, Boyle, Co Roscommon for his 14-month-old bull Mohedian Nomad.

Limousin

Limousins were met with a tougher trade. Thirteen Limousin bulls were on offer with the top price of these going to Thomas Mulligan Currycramp, Dromad, Co. Leitrim for his Ampertine Foreman bred bull. He was five star for both terminal and replacement index also with a 5% calving ease and selling for €2,800. Thomas also secured the second top price of €2,450 for Currycramp Mackie by Ampertine Commander out of a Wilodge Fastrac dam. He was also five star across the board with a 4.7% calving ease.

Angus

Top price Angus went to James Doorley, Ardakillen, Stokestown, Co Roscommon for his 14-month-old bull sired by Coneyisland Legend. He was 2.5% for calving ease and sold for €2,550. Average prices for Angus was down on previous years.

A small selection of Simmental, Shorthorn and Hereford were on offer but trade for these was poor.
