The range of attractions available, the quality competitions and the chance to renew acquaintances from last year ensured a successful show for everyone again at Belgooly this year.

Cattle section

There was an excellent display of animals in the cattle section. As one exhibitor commented, any show would be envious of the high-quality animals in the ring. It was a very successful day for the Barrett brothers in the dairy section where Ricky Barrett won both the best Friesian cow and also the Supreme champion Dairy animal award with Laurelelm Seaver Coll.

Tractors cup

Ricky also took home the West Cork tractors cup for Best Friesian heifer in milk with Laurelelm. Meanwhile, John Barrett won champion maiden heifer and best Friesian heifer calf with Laurelmore Cashcoin Daffodil. In the beef section, it was a clean sweep for Albert De Cogan who took home the Dan Joe O’Regan cup for champion beef animal with Knockadrinan Blackbird and the champion beef calf award with Mogeely Black Catch. The high entries and expertise demonstrated in the Young Handler classes proves that there is a strong future in showing animals.

Show

The chair, John Stanley, thanked those who willingly gave their time to help set up the Showfield the week previous through to late Saturday night when the last of the field was cleared.
