Some 30,000 delegates from all nations are meeting in Katowice in Poland until 14 December to lay down the rules governing the commitments made at the Paris climate summit in 2015.

While nearly all countries in the world agreed to take action to limit global warming “well below 2°C” in Paris, the detail of how this will be implemented and measured has yet to be decided.

The 24th conference of parties to the UN climate convention (COP24) is also set to examine agriculture in more detail than ever before.

“Over 90% of nationally determined contributions, the countries’ National Climate Action Plans, touch on agriculture,” said UN climate change executive secretary Patricia Espinosa. “It’s not about reducing emissions by producing less food; it’s about finding creative solutions to address both issues at the same time.”
