The stage was set, the hall was full, with a buzz in the air for what was guaranteed to be a fantastic night of entertainment.

With singing and dancing, and jokes and sketches, there was plenty on offer to entertain the large audience that had gathered for the FBD national Capers final in Eire Óg Hall, Ovens, Co Cork, last month.

The six clubs were ready to go, the late-night rehearsals were done, the hard work was put in and they were ready to get on stage to show their performance in the final.

The MC, Conor Murphy, was ready with the microphone to bring the clubs on stage and keep the show on the road.

In the final were Callan, Donoughmore, Ballincollig, Kilkenny City, Kinsale and Clonakilty Macra clubs, all ready to give it their all on stage.

After a superb lineup of shows, it was down to the judges who had the difficult task of picking the winners. Best male was John Condon from Clonakility Macra. Best female was Niamh Sheehy from Kilkenny City Macra.

Best producer was Michael Sherlock from Callan Macra. Best act was awarded to Ballincollig Macra.

Then it came down to the results everyone was waiting for – in third place Kinsale, in second place Kilkenny City, and the winner of the FBD national Capers final was Clonakilty.

Its show was Let’s Jam, which was produced by club member John Condon.

They showed off their dancing skills and singing, as well as their sketches of RTÉ News interviewing various politicians and how they will look after the farmers, as well as an exclusive interview with a farmer who admitted to making money at farming.

They finished off their show with their rendition of West Cork, West Cork.

Well done again to all who took part and to the hosts for a fantastic and enjoyable night.

A special thank you to FBD Insurance for its continued support and sponsorship of this competition.
