In its programme for government, the coalition of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Green Party made an important commitment to Irish agriculture, but which, for reasons unknown, seems to have received little attention from the main farming organisations.

It has to do with the way emissions from agriculture are measured. Agriculture is nowadays a small portion of the Irish economy. Before the COVID-19 emergency came along about 4.6% of total employment was in farming, forestry and fishing.
