Road testing for commercial 4x4s, SUVs and fast tractors is set to resume from 18 May.

Minister for Transport Shane Ross had suspended the CVRT due to fears over spreading the coronavirus, but said testing would resume for vehicles with a test date before 28 March.

“The resumption of testing for vehicles with a test due date on or after 28 March 2020 is expected to follow over the coming weeks,” the Department of Transport said.

Protocols

They said that the resumption of testing would be subject to strict protocols.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is set to contact CVRT centres with more details, but centres will be advised not to reopen if they cannot put adequate safety measures in place.

In regard to NCTs and other services such as driving license services, Minister Ross said he had asked officials in his Department and the RSA to develop a road map for the phased resumption of testing.
