Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed will be quizzed on the state of play in ongoing CAP reforms by members of the Oireachtas agriculture committee.

Minister Creed is currently involved in ongoing negotiations among his fellow agricultural ministers across Europe to finalise the European Council’s position on the next CAP.

At the meeting, taking place on Monday at 5.15pm, the Minister will update the committee on EU Agriculture Council meetings held on 18 November and the next meeting due on 16 December.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, committee chair Pat Deering said: “Minister Creed is currently involved in two important sets of negotiations with his fellow EU ministers on Ireland’s fish quota for next year and the shape of the next round of CAP funding from 2020."

Update

“Members look forward to hearing his update from last month’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, as well as the Minister’s analysis of both sets of negotiations ahead of next week’s meeting.”

The next CAP had been due to come into force in 2021. However, it has now been delayed for a period of at least one year.

Following the publication of draft proposals by the European Commission in May 2018, the European Parliament and European Council are yet to finalise a position.
