A steadying of beef prices has helped the cull cow trade.

Recent weeks saw continued price pressure on the cow trade, particularly on plainer store cows. However, at the top of the market, fleshed culls have held firm.

While it is harder to exceed the €2.00/kg mark for well-fleshed continental culls, some prices are exceeding this.

The majority of fleshed cows continue to sell from €1.80/kg to €1.95/kg.

Forward continental feeding cows are selling mainly from €1.65/kg to €1.75/kg, while well-fleshed Friesian cows are selling mainly from €1.60/kg to €1.70/kg.

Plain cows straight from the parlour are selling mainly from €1.00/kg to €1.20/kg, depending on the level of flesh. Where Jersey-cross cows are on offer, prices of €0.80/kg to €1.00/kg are common.
