A dairy farmer has paid €12,800/ac for a small Wexford package at public auction last week. The 12.5-acre farm sold under the hammer for an impressive €160,000 on 27 February. The guide for the property prior to auction was €145,000 or €11,500/ac.

The farm was located in Curraghmore, Salthills in Co Wexford. The bidding for the holding opened at €100,000 or €8,000/ac. Three active bidders were present on the day and proceedings briskly moved towards €150,000 or €12,000/ac.

At this point, one of the parties dropped away, leaving the path clear for the two remaining individuals to battle it out.

The lands were laid out in two fields and are currently in permanent pasture

At this point, the parcel was declared on the market.

Two more bids saw the hammer fall at €160,000 or €12,800/ac. It was confirmed that a local dairy farmer bought the ground. The lands were laid out in two fields and are currently in permanent pasture.

The agent offering the sale was Anne Carton, of PN O’Gorman. She held the farm in high regard, noting it was suitable for tillage or grass. It has been an impressive start to the Wexford auction season.

This is the second public auction in recent weeks that has sold well in the county, with a 91-acre farm in Knockanevin Castle Ellis, Blackwater, selling under the hammer for €1.42m in early February..
