An investigation has been launched after two dead sheep were found dumped in the river beside Thoor Ballylee Castle outside Gort in Co Galway on Wednesday 11 April.

The farmer who found them, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the tags were taken out of their ears.

“One was very badly starved and the other had bad mastitis. The area is known for dumping outside Gort, but mainly for fly-tipping.”

Sergeant O’Connor from Gort Garda station said:“We are appealing for anyone with information on the dead sheep to contact Gort Garda station on 091-636400.”
