Living up to her name, Crew Destiny U601 ET took all before her at this year’s Northern Ireland calf show in Dungannon last Saturday.

The stylish young heifer bred by Samantha Allen and Allen Shortt, Strabane, took home the coveted JB Lamb Memorial Cup for the supreme overall champion. Born March 2018, Destiny is the pairing of Hallington Evo L333 and the proven breeder Crew Dakota L101.

Speaking after the show, judge Rob Bishop who runs the Warrenho herd said his champion “just oozes ring presence and is picture perfect”.

This marks the second time in three years the breeding duo have taking home the overall championship at the event, with Crew Lady Jasmine securing the title in 2016. Lady Jasmine followed her successful calf show career by this year being awarded the prestigious overall Angus championship at the Royal Highland Show, a feat Samantha and Allen will be hoping Destiny can match.

Taking the reserve overall championship at the 14th annual calf show was Richhill Major U002 from Robin Lamb. This seven-month-old bull is by the herd’s current stock bull, Weeton King Lear R452, while the dam is a daughter of Gorticross Missie, who placed first in the senior heifer class at the event back in 2011. Major placed first in the intermediate bull class before going on to place as overall male and reserve supreme champion.

Standing second to the overall champion in the female lineup to claim the reserve female championship was the April 2018 born Woodvale Tidy Bee U322. This young heifer bred and exhibited by Alwyn and Carol Armour and Sons, Dromara, is sired by new stock bull Oak Moor Mr Paul S311, while the dam is homebred Woodvale Tidy Bee H782.

The Parke family of Strabane were again out in force claiming two reserve championships. First in the pickings was their young bull Cloghogill Eric U546, which was awarded the reserve male championship. This January 2018-born bull was originally bred by Robert and Joyce Smyth but was bought privately by Adrian and Graeme Parke. Sired by Cloghogmill Prince Pete R255, Eric is out of Cloghogmill Emma R244.

Bailey Smyth, Strabane, was the winner of the junior handling class at the NI Aberdeen Angus Club's 14th annual calf show, in Dungannon. He was congratulated by judge Rob Bishop, Berkshire. \ Edward Dudley

The second championship came in the form of the reserve yearling, with Coolermoney Samson T725 taking the rosette. Sired by Cloghogmill Eric R233, Samson claimed the male championship at this year’s Balmoral show.

Not stopping there, the Parke family also won the Mossbrook Perpetual Trophy for the best pair of calves.
