Too often, the value of our domestic market is overlooked in favour of export destinations. As Eoin Lowry details on page 20, we now import almost €3bn worth of prepared consumer foods every year. The value of exports in this category stands at just €2.2bn per annum. It raises the question as to whether or not we are extracting the full value from the output of our agricultural sector prior to exporting it. Growing value is perhaps more of an opportunity than growing output.
