Donegal IFA is the latest branch to roll out a poster campaign to showcase the positive aspects of farming in Ireland.

The branch public relations officer Tom Boyd said that they had seen the poster campaign take off in other counties and felt it was something they should do.

“The plan behind the campaign is to highlight the importance of family farms and to encourage folk to buy local produce either straight from farmers or from local shops.

“Not just now during the pandemic, but permanently,” Boyd explained.

“By buying local you are not just supporting a local family or business, it’ll also support the climate by less need for importing cheaper, inferior products.”

He said the branch was also running a competition on its Facebook page for farmers to send in pictures of their family farms.

Monthly winners of the competition have the chance to be featured in a calendar, with all proceeds from the calendar sale going to charity.
