Michael Fitzmaurice has been re-elected to the Dáil in the Roscommon-Galway constituency as an Independent.

Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal ahead of the election he said remained committed to trying to get a “proper” environmental scheme for farmers.

He also pointed out the need for agricultural contractors to gain access to the carbon tax credit for agricultural diesel given they do the majority of mechanical work across farms in Ireland.

Fitzmaurice was first elected to the Dáil as an Independent candidate in the 2016 general election and was a founding member of the Independent Alliance which he later left after voting against Enda Kenny as Taoiseach.
