Two women have been elected to chair the Galway and Cavan IFA county executives on Monday night.

Ann Mitchell was voted in at the Galway IFA AGM at the Raheen Woods Hotel in Athenry, taking over from dairy farmer Pat Murphy.

She is the first woman to be elected to the chair position in the county.

Also in Galway, Turloughmore’s Martin Murphy was elected to the position of Galway’s second representative. On the same night further north, Cavan IFA elected Elizabeth Ormiston from Mullagh as its new chair. She will succeed James Speares.
