The limit for de minimus funding is poised to be increased to €25,000 for individual farmers in Europe by December, according to European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan.

The funding can currently be drawn down by member states from Europe in times of crisis without the need to notify the European Commission and is set at €15,000 per farmer over three years.

It provides funding for schemes such as the Fodder Transport Scheme and the Crop Loss Compensation Scheme.

Upper limit

Commissioner Hogan said that he hoped to have the upper limit for funding raised by December to help alleviate drought-related costs on farms across Europe.

The additional funding can be applied retroactively by member states, but it is not yet known if Ireland will approve using the upper limit once introduced.
