Good farmer and exporter demand is keeping the mart trade steady for quality weanlings. That’s despite torrential rain driving more stock into sales.

The average 350kg weanling bull is making €791/head or €2.26/kg. That is 7c/kg, €20/head to €25/head down on last week but on par with the same week last year. The drop has been mainly for plainer and light weanlings and particularly in dairy areas.

Export demand has pushed bulls of 250kg to 300kg to 9c/kg or €20 to €25/head above last year, with the average 280kg bull on €711.

Weanling heifer sales are dominated by farmer demand and prices are 15c/kg to 20c/kg behind bulls.
