Gardaí in Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, are investigating the vandalism of a Massey Fergusson 365 tractor on a private farm in Frenchbrook, Claremorris. Extensive damage to the value of €2,500 has been reported. The front window, headlamps and the glass on one of the doors was smashed.

The incident occurred at approximately 4pm on Saturday 28 December. Farmer and owner of the tractor, Mark Burke, said that he had no idea why the tractor was vandalised.

“My nephew was in the house when a van came into the yard. He thought it was a neighbour that we were expecting so he didn't go out. They upturned nearby bins as well.”

The Irish Farmers Journal understands that it may have been an attempted theft. An unrecognised white van was seen in the area at the time and gardaí are examining CCTV footage from a nearby school. Neighbours have been canvassed by gardaí and investigations are continuing.
