Factory agents have attempted a price cut this week by reducing base quotes. However, prices paid remain on par with last week’s returns.

Farmers are securing €4.70/kg to €4.80/kg for quality-assured lambs.

Producer groups are being paid up to €4.85/kg. Deals have also been done on weight limits up to 22kg. Agents claim the weakened sterling is making UK lamb supplies on the continent more competitive.

Some factories have reduced quotes by 5c/kg to 10c/kg. Last week’s sheep kill has held steady but numbers are expected to tighten next week during the National Ploughing Championships.
