The annual sheep show and sale take place at New Ross Mart on Monday. According to mart manager Richard Kirwan, there was a good entry of about 1,600 sheep on offer. The trade overall was good, but it did get a little sticky at times.

In general, factory lambs were back by €1 to €2 on the previous week. They sold mainly from €94 to €105, or €50 to €60 over the weight. There was continued strong demand for heavy butchers lambs, and these sold to a top price of €121 over the weight, with the main supply selling from €107 to €121, or from €57 to €62 over. Demand for store lambs was fairly steady and buyers continue to be active.

Prices in the main ranged from €60/head to €87/head, with the best prices paid for heavy short-keep type lambs.

There was a good entry of breeding ewes, hoggets and ewe lambs on offer also. Ewe lambs sold mainly from €90 to €115 or from €40 to €65 over, while hoggets sold from €125 to tops of €170. There was a good share of older ewes suitable for breeding, and these sold mainly from €90/head to €140/head. Cull ewes were a solid trade and sold mainly from €90 to €120 for those carrying flesh, while lighter feeding types sold from €56 to €90. Commission rates are 1.75% to the seller and €1.25/head to the buyer for lambs and €2/head for breeding sheep.
