UK livestock farmers are up in arms at a recent BBC documentary Meat: a threat to our planet? which failed to explain the difference between American and local farming.

Farmers are worried that the documentary left the public with the impression all meat is produced in the same way.

The four UK farming union presidents from NFU, NFUS, UFU and NFU Cymru stated that “At no point did the documentary explain the vast differences between American meat production and UK production. This was a massive oversight considering the BBC’s audience and would have left people with the impression that all meat is produced in the same way.”

The documentary showed presenter Liz Bonnin travelling around the globe on what the broadcaster has described as an “ambitious and sometimes dangerous mission” to discover the truth on global meat production. She visited farms in North and South America as well as in the UK.

The unions went on to say: “Simply showing the environmental impact of beef production in North and South America does nothing to help people make informed choices about food which can be grown and reared in ways that offer benefits for the environment.
