At Rathfriland Mart on Friday last, there were over 100 bullocks on offer, which were met with a strong trade.

Bullocks from 500kg to 600kg sold mainly from £500 to £600 over the weight.

Lighter steers from 400kg to 500kg sold mainly from £380 to £500 over the weight.

Heifers sold from £500 to £600 over the weight for good-quality types from 500kg to 600kg, while lighter store heifers from 400kg to 500kg sold mainly from £400 t0 £500 over the weight for average-quality types.

Weanlings were met with solid farmer demand and prices ranged mainly from £250 to £400 over the weight for average-quality types, with heavier weanlings running from £1.90/kg to £2.10/kg.

There continues to be a steady entry of dropped calves on offer at the sale.

Prices of £205 to £230 were commonplace for Herefords, while Angus calves sold to £435 for an aged calf.

Suckler and fat cows sold from £1,115 to £1,380.
