Farmers have received a text message from the Department of Agriculture to inform them of their new entitlement values following a cut to Ireland’s direct payment budget.

The text message, issued on Friday, informs farmers that there is correspondence for their attention on their www.agfood.ie account. It asks that farmers long in or contact their farm adviser for details.

Farm advisers have reported that the text message has created confusion among farmers.

There will be a 2.05% cut to all direct payments on foot of a reduced CAP budget agreed in late 2020.

On opening the BPS application portal, the Department stated that farmers will be notified of the value of their payment entitlements through agfood.ie.

The correspondence issued by the Department is a 2021 statement that contains the updated entitlement figures. Further information will be posted to farmers next week.
