Boehringer Ingelheim, the company manufacturing the popular flukicide Trodax, has warned that farmers should check bottles for ‘sedimentation’ before use on cattle or sheep.

“Boehringer Ingelheim has become aware that some bottles of Trodax 34% Solution for Injection contain a white, granular precipitate,” a spokesperson for the company told the Irish Farmers Journal.

“We are currently awaiting the results of ongoing analysis to identify the root cause of the precipitate.”

“This process has, unfortunately had an unintended impact on the available supply of Trodax to UK and Irish customers.”

The spokesperson went on to state that the results of testing would be shared with the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD), but due to the process they did not have an exact date for when normal supply would resume.

“We advise customers to make sure packs are visually checked for signs of sedimentation before use,” the spokesperson said.

“If after visual inspection they see signs of sedimentation or granulation, then we advise customers not to use the bottle and put it to one side.”

If farmers are concerned that a bottle contains sedimentation they should contact the company on their Technical Enquiries line, on 01344-746957, or email at vetenquiries@boehringer-ingelheim.com.
