The big boy ram sale is growing in popularity, with 120 rams from 11 different breeds entered into last Friday's sale at the showgrounds, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Roscommon, where a big crowd assembled.

A buoyant trade was seen for good-quality rams, with a good clearance rate for all breeds.

Top call of the sale went to Philip Crowe, Lisonanagh, Co Cavan, for his Blue Texel hogget ram that sold for €1,200.

Philip Crowe's Blue Texel hogget ram was knocked down for the highest price of the sale at €1,200.

Top price in the Suffolk section went to Liam and Dympna Higgins for their December 2018 ram lamb which was knocked down at €720. Average price in the Suffolk section was €506.

The Texel breed had the largest number on offer and the highest breed average of €576/ram.

Top price in this section went to Ben Lynch, Loughduff, Co Cavan, for his February 2018 hogget ram. He was knocked down at €950.

The Charollais breed also had a good selection on offer, with the breed average coming in at €565.

Top price in the Charollais section went to Andrew Gilmore, Kingscourt, Co Cavan, for his February 2018 hogget ram which sold for €850.
