A man in his 50s has died following an incident on a farm in Co Longford on Thursday evening.

In a statement, gardaí said the incident occurred at approximately 6pm on Thursday 28 May in a farmyard in the Colehill area of the county. It is understood the man was working on a piece of farm machinery at the time.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and was removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar, for a post-mortem. Gardaí said foul play is not suspected at this time.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified and an investigation has been launched.
