A number of factories have moved to try to ease lamb prices. The two Irish Country Meats plants and Kildare Chilling have reduced base quotes to €5.70/kg, a respective fall of 20c/kg and 30c/kg on last week’s levels. Factories are pre-empting an increase in supplies but are also still relying on hogget throughput of 6,000 to 7,000 head. Demand remains strong and producers are still securing prices ranging from €6.00/kg to €6.10/kg. The mart trade is also strong with agents active and competing with butcher and wholesale buyers and this is providing a good alternative sale outlet.
