There will be a transport subsidy to help with the cost of moving fodder to parts of the northwest, Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed announced this week.

The Minister said that it will be a number of days before details of the subsidy will be divulged and could not put a figure on how much the department would deploy to such a subsidy.

The Minister said that such a subsidy will “be a targeted contribution towards long-distance transport of fodder to those areas most impacted by the adverse weather.”

Meanwhile, LacPatrick Dairies has secured a significant volume of maize silage with a DMD of 71% for its suppliers in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland.

LacPatrick has negotiated the price to below the current market value and will help farmers transport the maize from its current location to the farmer’s yard.

A minimum delivery is a 30t load and the price of the maize will be deducted in four equal shares from four milk cheques.
