The Alford family hosted a production sale of their Foxhillfarm Limousin herd in Carlisle last Friday, with trade peaking at 19,000gns.

The relatively new herd, established less than a decade ago, has made a significant impression in the Limousin world, securing a number of Royal Show championships and topping sales more than once. This success meant that all of the 30-plus lots were in high demand.

Securing the top price of 19,000gns was Foxhillfarm Primadonna. This yearling heifer is a daughter of Ampertaine Gigolo and the Royal Highland Show interbreed champion Foxhillfarm Mammamia, herself a daughter of the record-priced Limousin female Glenrock Illusion. This tremendously shaped young heifer was the pick of Anthony Renton.

Top of the cows on offer also came from this line in the form of Foxhillfarm Looksthepart, which sold for 8,500gns

Topping the embryo calf section was Foxhillfarm Rebecca, which sold to Northern Ireland-based Gareth Corrie for 14,000gns. This January 2020-born heifer is sired by Haltcliffe Dancer and is out of Foxhillfarm Isla, who is the successful mating of Vantastic and Bankdale Alice.

Top of the cows on offer also came from this line in the form of Foxhillfarm Looksthepart, which sold for 8,500gns. Sired by Guards Boomer, she is out of Foxhillfarm Gracie, a full sister to the previously mentioned Isla. This five-year-old cow secured a number of top placings at many shows throughout her life and sold in calf to the 30,000gns Goldies Owain.

Overall, the sale saw a 100% clearance rate, with nine embryo calves selling for just shy of £5,000, three served or maiden heifers averaging closer to £11,000 and cows averaging £5,355.
