The trading bonus announced by Glanbia Co-op applies to co-op members purchasing inputs from Glanbia Ireland. It is calculated differently depending on the type of enterprise, with all 2018 purchases made from Glanbia Ireland eligible, such as feed, fertiliser, veterinary medicines, dairy hygiene products and farm hardware.

Dairy farmers

Dairy farmers with purchases worth at least 1c/l of their milk supply can avail of a top-up payment on all milk delivered in 2018.

  • If a farmer’s purchases are worth 1c to 3c/l, they will receive 0.10c/l extra.
  • If a farmer’s purchases are worth 3c to 5c/l, they will receive 0.25c/l extra.
  • If a farmer’s purchases are worth 5c to 7c/l, they will receive 0.50c/l extra.
  • If a farmer’s purchases are worth over 7c/l, they will receive 0.75c/l extra.
  • Glanbia said that the trading bonus would be worth €3,750 to a 500,000-litre supplier spending over 7c/l with Glanbia Ireland this year.

    Tillage farmers

Grain growers will also receive a price top-up depending on the value of their input purchases from Glanbia Ireland relative to their grain supply this year.

  • If a farmer’s purchases are worth €40 to €50/t, they will receive €5/t extra.
  • If a farmer’s purchases are worth €50 to €60/t, they will receive €7.50/t extra.
  • If a farmer’s purchases are worth over €60/t, they will receive €10/t extra.
  • Drystock farmers

Beef, sheep and pig farmer customers of Glanbia Ireland who are co-op members will receive a rebate of €10/t on beef and sheep feed and €5/t on pig feed and straights.

The co-op said that the trading bonus scheme would be funded from the dividend it received from Glanbia Ireland this month. Glanbia Co-op owns 60% of Glanbia Ireland, formed by last year’s merger of Glanbia Ingredients Ireland, Glanbia Consumer Products and Glanbia Agribusiness.

Glanbia Co-op chair Henry Corbally described the scheme as “an equitable and transparent means of returning a share of Glanbia Ireland profit to our active farmers”.
