The Irish Grain Growers Group (IGGG) is seeking a derogation to bring forward the date farmers can utilise catch crops sown under GLAS from 1 December to 1 October.

The group wishes to utilise these cover crops to alleviate some of the fodder requirements for the coming winter.

The area which will be sown with catch crops under GLAS in 2018 is approximately 22,500ha.

In addition to this, a total of 1,051ha has been declared as Ecological Focus Area catch crops under growers’ greening obligations.
